Portland House

Brief Description
Portland House was built in 1935 as a holiday cottage overlooking the bay at Weymouth. It was damaged in WW2 and was donated to the National Trust in the 1970s. The National Trust refurbished the house to allow the public to relive the 1930s holiday experience. The house is Grade 2 listed.

Martin Thomas were part of the team involved in the refurbishment. The particular challenges faced and overcome are typical of this style of building, namely:

  • Lack of service voids
  • Concrete construction techniques and embedded services
  • Condensation
  • Lack of Insulation
