Draper’s Hall, Coventry

Brief Description

Drapers’ Hall is one of the few remaining historically important buildings in Coventry and is Grade II* listed in recognition. It was used by the Worshipful Company of Drapers until the 1950s. The building was rescued by Coventry City Council and, in 2018, with the help of the Historic Coventry Trust and Prince’s Foundation Trust, a plan was put in place for its refurbishment, with the aim of producing a performance and music education flagship in conjunction with the City’s cultural ambitions for 2021.

The building was in very poor condition (as can be seen below) having been empty for many years. Our involvement began with a feasibility study to look at various options and progressed to the full design of M&E Services. This included gas heating to a combined underfloor and radiator system, lighting to reflect the historic nature of the building but also to be functional for new use, access control and room booking systems to allow Coventry Music to use the space efficiently.
