Gilbert White & The Oates Collection

Brief Description

The Wakes in Selborne is a Grade I listed building previously owned by 18th Century naturalist Gilbert White. The house is now used as a museum dedicated to both Gilbert White and the explorer Captain “Titus” Oates.

As part of the ongoing development of the museum, intended to increase the number of visitors, an HLF grant was obtained to re-present a number of exhibition rooms, form a new entrance and shop in the main house, and convert the derelict stables building into a kitchen, café and tea room.
