Tylorstown, in the Rhondda Fach, evolved in the late 19th Century around the collieries originally started by Alfred Taylor with the Pendyrus Colliery.

The Hall was built in 1933, funded by donations form workers’ wages, colliery companies and the Miners’ Welfare Fund.

The Grade II listed Hall is little changed since construction and is noted as “a well-preserved example of this important building type, retaining definite quality and character”.

The Hall is an important hub for the local community, providing a wide range of services to local people and is home to the Pendyrus Male Voice Choir.

Working alongside Architects, Thread, and Project Mentor, Trevor Humphreys, we are proud to be able to help the dedicated staff and volunteers on the next step of returning the Welfare Hall to its former glory and reinforcing it’s important role in the life of the community.

The project is being funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
